We left Storm Warning with Dale at Dave’s Frame and Alignment in Huntington Beach CA to help us with the front end shimmy. Here’s what he found!
On the good side, we have positive scrub radius and the kingpin inclination is good (10 degrees positive). On the other hand, the Vega steering box mounting plate was flexing ¼” side-to-side; the tie-rod flexed 1/8” when tugged; the upper and lower steering arms were also flexing under force; there was play in the new kingpins; the Vega box top plate was loose and the box was out of adjustment; the left front tire was out of round; and the right front tire was out of balance. Yikes! We think most of the damage occurred during the 10+ episodes of "tankslappers" - violent front end shakes!
Well, gotta fix it up so we started to strengthen everything - tie rod, drag link, rod ends, steering arms, along with cross-bracing the steering box mounting plate. Follow along & check it out!
Oh, and if you're wondering what's up with Twine Time, if you were a teenager back in 1965 you probably remember. If not, though, click the link below to check it out. And the phrase comes toward the end of the song. Line-dancing anyone? Let's Boog-A-Loo!
